Judith Prochaska, Ph.D., M.P.H. is an Assistant Adjunct Professor in the UCSF Department of Psychiatry. Her research focuses on developing effective treatments for tobacco dependence and other leading health risk factors with a specific focus on populations with co-occurring disorders. Funded by the California Tobacco-Related Disease Research Program, Dr. Prochaska is developing and evaluating a tobacco cessation curriculum for psychiatry residency training programs. The study seeks to disseminate clinical treatment guidelines, impact professional norms, and increase access to tobacco cessation services among smokers with mental illness. Dr. Prochaska's research in the area of physical activity continues with a focus on its application as a mechanism for supporting smoking cessation through stress reduction, mood enhancement, and weight control. As part of two of Dr. Sharon Hall's NIDA-funded trials, Dr. Prochaska is evaluating an extended exercise intervention for supporting maintenance of nonsmoking among general-aged and older adult samples.
