davidwinsf@sbcglobal.netMy research focuses on identifying environmental and psychological variables associated with abstinence from illicit drugs during and after drug abuse treatment. I am Principal Investigator of "Assessing Environments of Opioid and Cocaine Users" (NIDA grant # DA 09124), the major aim of which is to develop new self-report measures in four environmental domains: 1) availability of drugs, 2) stressful events and chronic strains, 3) social influences on drug use and abstinence, and 4) alternative reinforcers to drugs and alcohol. Once the new measures are finalized, the effects of the variables on illicit drug use during drug abuse treatment will be studied. I am also a Co-Investigator on the San Francisco Treatment Research Center component of Kevin L. Delucchi, Ph.D., a Core faculty member within UCSF's Postdoctoral Training Program in Drug Abuse Treatment Research, and a member of the Committee on Human Research, the institutional review board at UCSF.
