Dr. Satre’s research is primarily focused on addiction and mental health services, including studies of screening and treatment. He works closely with the Drug and Alcohol Research Team directed by Constance Weisner, Dr.P.H., at the Kaiser Permanente Division of Research in Oakland, CA. Dr. Satre has a strong research interest in services for older adults, and has investigated age and gender differences in treatment outcomes of patients in the Kaiser chemical dependency clinics. He is currently developing a research program designed to improve chemical dependency services for older adults. Working with the Kaiser Member Health Survey, he is conducting a study of ethnic disparities in identification and treatment of depression and alcohol and drug problems. Dr. Satre has also examined treatment access barriers and factors contributing to addiction treatment initiation in Veterans Administration alcohol and drug treatment programs.
